Good Bye Public Speaking!

I met my goals for this class of Public Speaking. I wanted to learn how to speak better in front of crowds and learn how to create and write better speeches. The class ranged from creating our own speeches to portraying another character and by doing this we learned how to not just portray what we wanted to say, but what someone else had said. What gave me most success was being able to memorize my speeches quickly. This allowed me to finish my speech early in class and then be able to work on the next speech and outline what I was going to do next. I am most proud of the structures of my speeches. I believe I wrote them very well and came up with interesting topics with each assignment. I need to work on the way I deliver my speeches. sometimes my eyes wonder or I mess up with what I say, also Sometimes I move around to much which will make me look nervous. The biggest thing I will take away from this class is how to structure a good speech and how to use pathos, ethos, and logos to make speeches more interesting and credible. Also, I will miss the candy.

How to Make My Ted Talk Better

My Ted Talk right now is a little disorganized. I have notes of what I am going to say during it and what images I am going to use, but it is not yet laid out as neatly or as organized as I would like. I need to go through the notes and organize them into paragraphs and add breaks where I will explain either the photo, a quote, or a photographer.
Once I have done that I need to carefully read through my speech and make sure it a) makes sense and b) everything flows. With this, I also need to add more to the part about myself as a photographer to help establish more credibility. Also, I need to find photos that I have taken to show throughout the talk. I am not sure yet if it would be better to do a slide show where each image is its own slide or if I could do a movie and have photos just run throughout it.
When I talk about documentaries I am going to add the question, "Who here has ever cried while watching a documentary or a film based on a true story?" BY doing this I will draw in the attention of the audience and this will then lead me to a smooth transition into talking about how documentations give people a voice and how they do that by making people feel something.
For my conclusion I need to decide what my takeaway should be whether it is my thesis or something else. I think my thesis is strong, but I need to find a way to add to my conclusion without sounding repetitive. I think I will add more photos to the end as a montage, but I need to figure out a stronger ending with more meaning to make the viewers feel something.
The photos I add with vary from landscape to portraits and abstract to help attract attention and by mixing the types of images it helps maintain attention and many people get fascinated by what photographers can do.

Research For Ted Talk

Thesis: Photography and videography gives a voice to those who do not have one.

Introduction:

Photography is another form of storytelling and it gives people an outlet to express their emotions or what they are going through. The Saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words” is proof of this. Yes, someone can read a long paragraph describing someone's pains, but a photo can do that and even explain more. Because if this photography can show pain, happiness, and other emotions. Photography also leaves room for the viewers interpretation, which allows for new stories to emerge. Photographers and videographers are another means of communication for these people. Documentarians share the story of a person or a group of people.

  • Photography and videography allows for someone to express what they are going through or how they feel without having to stand in front of a crowd
  • These people do not have a voice either because they are a minority or they do not have the power in their community.

Myself:
Photography has always been an interest of mine because of the power it has and its ability to help bring awareness and how it helps people. I began this interest in my freshman year photography class that I originally took just to get an easy A. My photography teacher however told me how she went to intercity schools and worked with kids in a photography program to help them and give them an outlet. Another inspiration of mine was Annie Lebowitz whose photography has always intrigued me.

Videography:
  • Gives a voice to the scared or to someone who needs a voice
    • documentaries such as: The Dragon Lives Here interview people who have had Heroin addictions or have lost people from heroin addictions
    • This gives a voice to someone who may have a heroin addiction. the goal is to bring awareness and to help someone who may be struggling.
    • Nicole Van- Slyke said, “I wake up at 5 and stay in the office untill 11 just going throughand editing my film. I am the oice of these people so I want to make sure I can do my best because I am telling their story.”
Photography examples:
Great Depression:
  • This image is depicting a Woman with her children holding onto her during the Great Depression. Photography during the Great Depression gave a glimpse into the lives of those that suffered through it. Just by looking at this Woman and her tattered clothes with her children hanging on to her shows that she is not happy. This photo along with many other photos from the Great Depression have very similar characteristics such as a stern face and a lot of images have children in them. What could these people say that would be as powerful as these images showing their struggle. A visual is much more emotional and meaningful then someone writing about the struggles.

Refugee:

This is Sharbat Gula and to us she looks like teenage girl, but her story is incredible. This photo was taken by Steve McCurry and it was published into the National Geographic. Sharbats stunning eyes are what got her on the cover of National geographic and her story. Her story begins with the loss of her parents during an air raid in Pakistan. After trudging through mountains with her grandmother brother and sisters she ended up at this refugee camp. The meaning behind this photo is the pain and suffering one endures when having to flee their home. This photo gives a voice to all of those refugees who had to flee their homes and who have been through so much pain and loss, but also showing their strength and courage.

What Makes a Good Ted Talk

Ted Talks are videos of people who give speeches through an organization called Ted. These videos and speeches are called Ted Talks. Many famous people have done Ted Talks such as Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and Stephen Hawking. The point of a Ted Talk is to convey a message or bring awareness to certain topic. There are many characteristics that make up a good Ted Talk and these points are crucial to creating a good, well written Ted Talk.
First, the speaker must be very passionate about what he or she is talking about. This person usually has prior knowledge on the topic. If someone is passionate about their topic it will result in a better speech, the person’s attitude throughout the speech will be cheerful and positive. When a speaker has a captivating attitude during a speech, the viewers will stay engaged and will believe that you really know what you are talking about.
Second, going along with what I stated above about how the speaker will want to do a speech on something they have prior knowledge on, the speaker will want to have credibility. This credibility could come from research or the speaker may have done or worked on something relating to their topic. These examples can come in forms of ethos. For example, one  Ted Talk we watched there was a man who did 7 years of research and interviewed 500 people. When he stated this he established credibility, credibility will reassure your viewers that what you are saying is reliable and it is not just your single opinion. This is why when giving a speech you do not want to sound bias. If you sound bias then you will lose credibility.
Thirdly, the topic needs to be relevant. A topic that is not very relevant will not be as effective as something that is very relevant today. An example of this is in the speech where the lady talked about how asking kids “what do you want to be when you grow up?” This, she says, conforms them and their thoughts on what they can be when they grow up. This is a relevant topic because kids are the future and we should not limit kid’s abilities to be anything they want to be.
Fourthly, a good Ted Talk needs to have visual aids. It is hard for any human to sit for 18 minutes and watch someone speak. Visual aid grabs the audience’s attention and by doing this maintains a tentative audience. In one ted talk about the ocean a man does not have very strong talking points and that is because his visual aids pretty much said his speech for him. He had tons of underwater videos of how sea animals camouflage themselves to survive and how they actually look exactly like their surroundings. Within his speech you could hear gasps of amazement and that shows that the audience was intrigued and entertained throughout the story.
These things are essential to a good ted talk. The speaker must be passionate about their topic, they must establish credibility, the topic must be relevant, and visual aids are necessary.

Reading is Fun... Not Dumb!

.   My how to speech was about how you should read to children. The speech did capture the attention of the audience because I came out with a clear topic and exactly how this was being done wrong and how to do it right. I don't think the topic was necessarily related to the audience because none of the students are children or parents. The body was previewed because I discussed how parents read monotined or fast to children. I then proceeded to say how this problem could be fixed.
My body paragraph consisted of steps on how to keep a child's attention while reading. I supported these points with my prop of the book "Green Eggs and Ham." I used the book to show points such as "choosing a book", "animate characters", and "sit so that the child can see the pictures." My points were organized and eac point transitioned into the next clearly and my points were clear and concise. my last body point was my strongest and then that transitioned into my conclusion. I summarized my points by saying that these are essential steps needed to take in order to read to a child effectively.  I called all my readers or listeners to go out into their community and read in a library or to their siblings.
I used different kinds of language in the sense that I changed my voice for some examples to show the tone of voice children would like to hear or would engage with. I had my book and notecard prepared before class and I barley looked at my notecard throughout my speech. I spoke clearly but I may have spoken a little too fast at some parts and I believe I was loud enough. my visual aid corresponded perfectly with my topic because it was a children's book and I used examples from the book within my speech. reading to children I believe is really fun and exciting so I think I did a good job expressing interest and enthusiasm of the story.
I think I achieved the purpose of telling people how to read to children effectively. I researched what children are interested in and what engages them. I believe some of the audience interested, I think some found it humerus. I completed my speech witching two minutes which is above the required.
I really enjoyed my topic because reading is something I love to do to calm me down or especially on rainy days. I love children as well and combing the two makes both better. I think this topic is very important because a big thing right now for children and teens is that they are uninterested in reading and more involved with cell phones and Internet. this is why it is essential to get children interested in reading and get them involved with it early because other wise they will hate it. If adults do not put in the time and effort to read to Children they will then put in the effort to read and become interested in reading.

The Three Ted Talks Everyone Should Watch

I have always been a fan of Ted Talks, I think they are a great way of educating people through speech and visuals. Many people who do Ted Talks have been influential to the world and have done many interesting things.

The first Ted Talk I listed below is Peter Gailey. His topic was jumping and he says that jumping is all in the landing. This means that it is not what happens to you that defines you, but it is how you comeback from it and what you learn. He discusses his personal life experiences along with other struggles people have gone through.

Photography has always been a passion of mine. Photography is the Ted talks I mostly look up because the photography ones have the most interesting stories and images. The link below has a Ted talk by Ryan Lobo who is a photographer that "tells stories of unusual lives."  He tells stories of sadness and fear through his images and gives a voice to the people who may not have one. This is why this is one of the my favorite Ted talks.

https://www.ted.com/talks/ryan_lobo_through_the_lens_of_compassion

The last Ted Talk I suggest is one by Ken Robinson who describes that schools are killing creativity. Which I personally believe is true, he goes through how students are taught to think a certain way and because of this creativity is being squashed. I love this idea because in some ways it is true and many people would not see it this way.

How to: Read to a child

Children have a short attention span. This makes it difficult to get them interested in one specific thing for a period of time. Many adults make the mistake of reading to children in the same way they would read to themselves . By reading to fast and do not embody the characters. To read to a child you must be engaging, animated, and have fun with it.  In order for children to pay attention when you read to them you must follow these rules:

1)  Find a book that appeals to the kids: if you choose a book that is boring, doesn't have pictures, and won't capture the interest of children. This will result in distractions within a class room or wherever the setting is.
2) skim through the book before you read it. So you know when to use what voices and animations.
3) make sure you are sitting so that the child can see the pictures
4) read the title of the book to the child and emphasize it
5)  read along with your finger so the child can follow with you
6) have the child read along with you and have them participate
7)  use sound effects throughout the story to hold the child's attention
8) ask the child questions about the story to keep them engaged
9)change your voice with different characters and change how you sound

These are the essential steps you need to take to read to a child. Making reading fun for kids will make them want to keep reading as they grow up. If reading is made boring, kids will dread reading.  This is why  I encourage you to get out there and read in a library or to your siblings or kids because it can become really fun for you and the child if.

Howto Topics

How to train a puppy:
I love dogs. I have had dogs around me all my life and I have helped trained my dogs. I think this would be an interesting topic for me to do because of my knowledge on dogs and research for this would also be easy. If I am unclear about something or unsure of something I can look up "how to rain a puppy" online and use that as a resource. Dogs are also really awesome and most people like dogs (besides Baran) and I think it would a very well receipted idea and many people now are getting dogs who have no idea how to train them.

How to choice the right sports equipment:
I would relate this to softball and how to choose the right bat because a lot of people who are starting softball or need a new bat do not know how to start looking for one, Height, weight, and strength play a huge role throughout the process of finding a bat and many people are unaware of this, so by creating a video of how to choose the right bat people can save money and learn more about the sizes and what bat types will last longer and are more effective.

How to read to a child:
I love reading, especially to kids because when you read to kids you need to be very animated. This way it will capture the attention of the child. Many people read to kids with a monotone voice and bore the kids, but making a video for how to read to kids would be funny and useful.

I object!

The second debate was about social media and whether or not it has a positive or negative effect on teens. I personally believe that it has a positive and negative effect on teens because it allows people to connect, learn new things, and see unique things about the world that you other wise would not. on the other hand social media can also have a negative effect on teens through cyber bullying, exposing them to inappropriate resources, and also false information a long with many other things. my side was the negative side. some points were that social media exposes kids to cyber bullying, which allows young people to hide behind a different persona and allows them to target people without them knowing who is bullying them. we used a pathos of a time at Cheshire academy when a student made a Twitter account that negatively targeted students. another example we used was students who use social media sites while studying score 20% lower on tests and students who used social had an average of a 3.2 gpa whereas students who do not use it have an average of 3.82. this allowed our opponents and the audience to show how social media can damage futures and learning. the team really stressed the exposure to pornography and pedophilia which is an important topic to address but we focused to much on it. yes it is a good point to make but I think we focused to much on it and instead of elaborating or branching off we just went into more detail. on the other hand somethings my team did very well was rebut, ella did a very good job rebutting the arguments from jack and Hans and along with rebutting them, she expanded on a new topic on our side. another thing we did poorly on was collaboration and communication. we past some notes to each other but not a lot and also there were some points that the group did not believe to be strong enough to put in as an argument but were put in and in clear to the debate and our opponents. this weakened our arguments at the end because it was unclear what was trying to be said and how it related to the debate. the other team did my much better than the last time, their rebuttals were much cleaner and the opening statement was stronger. the only thing was the closing statement needed a little work with rebutting and stating new points but was a pretty good statement. their rebuts could have had more content as well in my first mini debate it was jack vs me and it was dogs vs cats. for having to come up with something on the spot I think we both did okay. we both should not have been so graphic with our depiction of mean cats and dogs. another thing was we both needed to speak longer, especially me in my opening I had 20 more seconds I could have used. in my second mini debate I was against Evan for Netflix vs tv and my points were that Netflix was cheaper, no commercials, and easier to access than television. Netflix only makes you pay once a month a cheap subscription where tv makes you pay bills for cable and electricity. also Netflix doesn't make you watch commercials and you can watch shows and movies without being interrupted. and Netflix can be accessed anywhere there is internet where in order to tv you need a tv and cable.
Overall I think everyone improved a lot from the first debate, both were much more prepared, and had many pathos, logos, and ethos. Rebuttals were much stronger with rebuttals too and I think this improvement improved everyone and this was shown through the mini- debates how people created points very quickly and wrote down rebuts to make.

#debate

opening statement: Adler
first rebuttal: Baran
second rebuttal: Ella
closing statement: Hannah
timer: David

Notes:
cyber bullying: allows young people to hide behind a different persona and allow them to target people without them knowing who is bullying them
pathos: cheshire academy: yik  yak and "two cent" (twitter)
Background check: social media gives people the privilege to post what ever they want
could be abused by posting inappropriate photos or statuses which could effect your opportunities for jobs
students who use social media sites while studying score 20% lower on tests and students who used social had an average of a 3.6 gpa whereas students who do not use it have an average of 3.82
Spreads unreliable sources
ethos: Social media is the top news source for Americans, ranking over newspapers 28.8%)  and above radio (18.8%)
social media is a way to allow procrastination
ethos: 40% of 8-18 year olds spend 56 minutes on social media a day
Social media is effecting personal relationships
ethos: 10% of people younger than 25 have responded to social media during sex
America is being too consumed by technology and social media
Logos: This is because people have access to it everywhere and  feel the need to be a part of what is happening in the world.
Social media can lead to depression and anxiety
Social media can also lead to other disorders
In 2013, the possible idea of internet addition was researched
Social media can also lead to damages to the body
Pathos: web users had altered prefrontal cortexes due to the fast pace of social media
Pathos: There has been more deaths caused by selfies than their has been deaths due to shark attacks.

Opening Statement:
Social media has consumed the lives of most people in America. These people are mostly teens or young adults. Some people even younger than 8 are exposed to social media at a very high rate which can create physical problems in the future along with the abuse of social media. Social media is dangerous, especially to teenagers who are going through a transition in their life. They get so consumed by what is happening in social media that they get distracted from tasks such as school and other topics related to that. Social media also exposes young people to the ability to hide behind a screen and attack people without them knowing who it is. For example, at Cheshire Academy there was a twitter account called "two cent girl" created to talk negatively about people at Cheshire Academy and spread rumors. These acts are shown as okay through television shows such as Pretty little liars and GOssip girl.

Debate One

Our first debate was about whether or not the drinking age should be lowered to 18 or should stay at  My team was on the affirmative side saying that the drinking age should be lowered. My team did very well in this debate. We all had thought out and had written out what we wanted to say and our points were clear and conscious. Our team also worked really well together and we all contributed thoughtful ideas and searched a lot about the topic. Another thing that we did well was we came up with possible rebuttals that the other side could have brought up and wrote responses to what they could have said and what we could rebut. Also, the team really fed off of each other very well. We used each others strengths and applied that to  the debate and who would do what.

The other team however I believe was not as organized as our team. The opening speaker said they knew they were doing the opening response the day before. Another thing was they did not have a strong rebuttal. Their ideas were not clearly laid out and were very short. I think their strongest speaker was the closing speaker and the opening speaker. The opening speaker although had a short opening, had very good points and spoke very well. This also goes for the closing speaker, even though he read off of the paper, he had strong consist points and brought up points that were not rebuttal  in  other teams arguments. This was a very strong point for them because there would beno opportunity   for my side to rebut.

The team that I believe won was my team. I think we had stronger arguments than the other team. We did a lot of research and used multiple sources to reassure that our sources were credible. We also had stronger rebuttals and touched on every point. We also used the other teams mistakes to strengthen our arguments and really listened to what their arguments were and picked at little details to rebut.

For my team, we need to keep up our organization and for the next debate assign people what they will do on the first day.  Also, we need to continue to our research on points because that really helped us all to work on something together and bring our points together. Also, we nee to keep up
our good teamwork because that results in a strong debate team. Also, we need to continue to listen very carefully and pay a lot of attention to the opponents arguments and rebuttals. This was something very strong that we did because then we gave our notes to the next rebutter.

What my team needs to work on is speaking slower and work on enunciation. This will allow for our audience to better understand our arguments and our points. Another thing is making sure that the thesis statement in properly stated and clear. I think another thing we need to work on is making sure we stay on topic because sometimes there would be rants or side conversations irrelevant to the debate and that took away from research or brainstorming time. Also, no matter what side your on you have to put in as much research as you would the topic you agree with even if you don't like that. I think that was a problem with our team as well and that weakened our arguments by saying they do not agree with our side.

The other team needs to work on their organization skills and rebutting skills. They should plan out who will be doing what for the debate and help each other figure out a good opening statement, not just the person saying the opening statement. As well as with the rebuttals, coming up with possible rebuttals my team could make and thinking of points and arguments based around that. This will help them organize their arguments better and allow for a better result and a stronger debate. Also, if they work on their communication between Q that will help them. After the debate they argued about how one person said they couldn't make a point because they were going to make it and never did. This then left out information or arguments that they could have used to strengthen their argument.

Dramatic Monologue Reflection

My monologue came from a movie called "Mean Girls" and my character is Regina George. Regina is a cruel back stabbing person who is feared and loved by everyone. In this monologue she is talking to a new girl in school about a girl she was just talking to. A strength of mine was how I channeled my inner "white girl" and sounded like an annoying snobby teenage girl. I also used a lot of eye rolling and disgusted looks to show how my character was not a very nice person and emphasized    words that were harsh to use   such as "lesbian" and "retarded". Another thing I did was flip my hair with my hand a couple times which adds to the "I do not care what others think" personality. Finally, I memorized my speech pretty quickly by watching that part in the movie and mouthing the words with her and closing my eyes and listening to her say it.
What I could work on is not looking at the ground or the ceiling, because even when I do not mean to I do it sometimes and that could take away from the affect I am giving or who I am portraying. Also, I need to work on my legs, in this monologue i leaned on one leg to show the I do not care personality but if the posture I have does not convey  the correct attitude or emotion that will affect my speech.
Differently than my first monologue I was able to change my voice and portray someone who I am not. I very much enjoyed this monologue because of that reason and also it is very funny to see what all the students do to enhance their performance. This monologue also allowed me to twist how it was originally done compared to the movie. This allowed me to give it a personal touch to show how i view girls like that in high school.
My classmates taught me how to portray different emotions through language. Not just speaking language and how they delivered it but through body language. For example Baran uses his voice to emphasize the importance of not talking about fight club and used his voice to intimidate people. Ella's monologue was sad and she used her tone of voice to convey anger and sadness and used pauses to help portray that as well. Along with her facial expressions and her mouth. When she was angry in the monologue he mouth was bigger but when she was sad she did not open her mouth as wide. Evan taught me through his blocking how to make an audience laugh by making a fool out of yourself and how using it can help your monologue.
I needed two more words to make it 500 :)

Regina George

My character is Regina George, a popular girl in high school who is mean and controls her peers. The motivation of this monologue is that Regina is speaking poorly about a class mate who she once was friends with then socially humiliated her. She is speaking to a girl name Kady who is new o the school. Regina and her are friends so Regina does not want Kady to have a bad reputation of hanging out with the wrong people. The setting is in a school hallway after Janus Ian (the girl Regina is talking about) was talking to Kady. The blocking in this is just a lot of eye rolling and dirty looks with a rude and snobby voice.

Dramatic monologue

Let me tell you something about Janis Ian. We were best friends in middle school. I know right, it’s sooo embarrassing. I don’t even… whatever. So then in eighth grade I started going out with my first boyfriend Kyle, who was totally gorgeous but then he moved to Indiana. And Janis was like, weirdly jealous of him. Like if I would blow her off to hang out with Kyle, she’d be like Why didn’t you call me back?! And I’d be like, Uh, why are you so obsessed with me? So then for my birthday party, which was an all girls pool party, I was like, Janyce I can’t invite you because I think you’re a lesbian. I mean, I couldn’t have a lesbian at my party! There were going to be girls there in their bathing suits! I mean right, she was a lesbian! So then her mom called my mom and started yelling at her and it was so retarded and then she dropped out of school because no one would talk to her and she came back in the fall for high school and her hair was all cut off and she was totally weird and now I guess she’s on crack. Oh my God! I love your skirt, where did you get it?

Who am I? Who are we?

My who am I? monologue was unique to others. Instead of saying my likes and dislikes, I discussed what attributes about myself I got, and who gave me them. It is important to appreciate who has been in your life whether in a positive or negative way. This is because through experiences we learn what is right and wrong and from that we make choices based off of these experiences.

I am very thankful for who has been a part of my life good or bad because from the good experiences I have learned to appreciate them more and have learned how to make myself laugh when I am down. Through bad experiences I have learned lessons like, do not sit next to the disruptive people in class because they will affect your learning. Our experiences and what we see as right and wrong lead to our effect on people’s opinions and their life.

My strengths for this monologue were my determination to write a speech that appreciates other people in my life and not just myself. By comparing myself to lessons I have been taught, I believe i achieved that goal. I also spoke clearly and loud enough for the audience to hear and understand. At some parts I sped up, probably because I had forgotten a part of my speech. I made a lot of eye contact with the audience and did not just focus on one person; I scanned the room numerous times to make sure to come in eye contact with everyone.

I need to work on not moving a lot during a speech because this will lead to a distraction to the audience and will weaken my speech. Also, by fidgeting a lot I could make the audience think that I am nervous which takes away from my points. In some videos of my monologue I had my voice sounded happy and upbeat, but the one I got completely right, I sounded like a robot. I need to work on how I sound during my speech because if I am trying to tell a happy story in a sad voice the audience will be confused and my points will not be as effective.

For next time I will work on controlling my body to move in a way that is not distracting to the audience or in a way that helps the audience understand my topic better. I will also work on looking at the monologue assignment in a creative way because I see myself as a creative person and that should show through my speeches as well. Will also rehearse more in front of a mirror or my parents to get feedback from my parents on what I did well and what I did not do too well.

From my peers, I learned about how they view themselves, how others view them and they're type of writing. This exposure to different writers will make me a stronger writer by getting their feedback and how they construct their speeches.

Elements of public speaking

The most important elements of public speaking are your content and delivery. Your content is the subject or topic you will be discussing while speaking. The order in which you state your ideas effects how strong of a speak you have. If the context is everywhere and theres no consistency, that will lead to a weak speech. If the speech is thought out with points that transition smoothly with  each other, that will lead to a strong argument and a better speech. Also, your content must capture the audiences attention even if you are speaking about dirt. You must make your content appealing or un-appealing depending on the kind of audience and the circumstance.
Delivery  is also very important because when speaking you want to enunciate your words, speak loud, and slowly. This allows listeners to be able to clearly understand what you are trying to say. Also, when delivering a speech    you want to convey the right emotion through your voice. You do not want to be talking about something sad but sound happy and cheerful. You want the audience to feel the emotion you want them to through body language and your voice.
One crucial aspect about public speaking is to know your speech. Before stepping in front of  a crowd, the speaker must practice any time that they can. If a speaker is not prepared, their argument will be weaker and they may look foolish. Whereas if someone came in barley looking about their paper people will think more highly of them and take them more seriously.
Another crucial aspect of public speaking is to believe in what you are writing. What you are speaking about should make you passionate. If you hate sushi you should not go make a speech in front of the student body saying why sushi is the best thing ever. Your audience will take note in if your body language and voice are not enthusiastic or powerful.
Finally, having confidence when speaking is key. You want to be comfortable talking in front of a bunch of people and should not go up scared. If you lack confidence then you should decide whether or not the speech you are about to do to tell the student body why you should be president will be effective. Especially with leaders, if you want people to follow you you have to sound confident like you are not scared of anything.
Three things I would like to work on in this class is, making the audience feel an emotion, making the audience think, and be able to give a strong speech about anything.

Who am I?

Who am I? Well, I am my mom. my dad. my sister. my friends. my teammates. my peers. and the kid who got mad at me for taking his crayons. I would be lying if I said I am just myself one person, because I am not. I got my smart thinking from my dad. I got my caring for others from my mom. My never give up attitude from my sister. my goofiness from my friends. my leadership from my teammates. my attitude from my peers. and the concept of sharing and the awareness of others from the guy with the crayons. I am made of more than just these individuals, but I think instead of asking myself who am I? I should ask who are we? Because aren't we the responsible for who people are and how they behave through our unknowing teaching. Individual we effect how people perceive    the world.

"A script is obviously less than a play, while a production is more."

A script can be a play, if the script tells the reader or viewer everything they need to know about the topic a script can be a play. The script can be seen a small piece of text or what the actors use to know their lines in a play. Without a script there would be no play. A production is a combination of a script and everything needed for a play. A production I believe can be identified as a play as well.
